That was a silent movie in the style of old impressionistic cinema and very entertaining it was too. I have their earlier work - The Call of Cthulhu.
I thought at one point they might be veering a little close to pulp heroism but no, it remains true to Lovecraft's vision of the universe.Īnd the film itself - wonderful. Even the liberties they have taken with the plot are ones that add to the structure and make it work better as a film in ways in keeping with the original text. This is, I think, a film that Lovecraft himself would recognize and approve. Lovecraft's best works into film practically beams off the screen no matter that it's sinister, bizarre and sincere all at once. I'm sure it was a lot of hard work but the sheer pleasure in turning one of H. But every one of them is fascinating to watch as they all clearly love their source material and enjoy making this film.
